Our Founder

Jo A. S. Thoburn founded Creating Scholars, a multimedia ecosystem that empowers future-focused parents and instructors with insightful books, video resources, and effective guidance. With The Scholars Plan, Mrs. Thoburn helps them navigate rapid technological changes without sacrificing the essential foundations children need to thrive.

For more than twenty-five years, Mrs. Thoburn has served as president of Fairfax Christian School. Before leading the school, she was a successful entrepreneur and owned two businesses in Northern Virginia. She has also served on the boards of numerous local, national, and international organizations in the nonprofit sector.

As a thought leader and recipient of numerous honors — including being named a “Top 100 Visionary in Education” and leading Fairfax Christian School to become the first high school to receive the “E” Award from the US Department of Commerce — Mrs. Thoburn has written extensively on education, American culture, and free enterprise. She has spoken at educational conferences and to parent and student groups across North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Her work promotes free-market approaches to education while helping families understand the value of quality academics, strategic career planning, and the future of the international education system.
